The Review

We're ready to move to Deland. This restaurant is in a tie for 2nd place with TAIKO in NY thus far. It's a traditional sushi restaurant located in a shopping center, similar to TOKYO in Jersey. No fancy exterior or interior. Nice lighting inside, clean bathrooms and nice size sushi bar. Focusing strictly on the food, most can't tell the difference between SUPERIOR QUALITY sushi and low grade fish. This place has top quality fish and it was out of the water fresh. Presentation wise, the rolls we ordered (6) were all excellent. We ate at two other restaurants in Florida and the rolls were falling apart, the sushi wasn't fresh and the sauce was limited. Samurai has one up on the top 3 restaurants listed above -- it's sauces. Honey wasabi. Garlic, Chili + Ponzu sauce on the Fire Starter Roll, which is our favorite, was delicious. Their sauces are unlike any other restaurant we've been to and appear to be a specialty mix, not something out of a jar. Service was excellent and server was extremely friendly. Nice size sports type bar as well, plenty of drinks. Overall, this place is a A+. We found our #1 Florida sushi restaurant near Orlando, Lake Mary, Heathrow, Deland, Sanford, Longwood, Winter Springs, Wekiva Springs, Deltona, Lockhart, Fern Park, Casselberry, Altmonte, Oviedo, Goldenrod and Maitland.

However, if you're looking for a restaurant to party at, this is probably not the best fit. While our first choice is absolutely NOT Amura due to our own personal experience, it's probably the best place to be loud and drink. Samurai is a low key, quiet place compared to Amura wihch has more of a bar/club feel to it and is generally much louder, gets much busier and has a fancier exterior/interior. If you want AFFORDABLE, QUALITY food, Samurai will satisfy your needs completely.
